Shawnee County Parks and Recreation will open Adventure Cove tomorrow, July 26th!
What is Adventure Cove? It’s a beautiful spot on Lake Shawnee where children and adults of all ages can come out during the season to enjoy paddle boats, canoes, kayaks and more! Codi-Lee and Ethan had the chance to go out there and try some of the boats out. Take a look at some of the fun below.
Operating hours are:
Monday 11a.m. to 7 p.m.
Tuesday 11a.m. to 7 p.m.
Wednesday 11a.m. to 7 p.m.
Thursday 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Friday 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Sunday 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
“We are excited to bring Shawnee County residents and visitors an exciting, new attraction,” said John Knight, SCP+R director. “With public input into the type of amenities they wanted to see, we have re-branded and re-purposed the beach area of Lake Shawnee into an attraction that meets today’s recreational standards.”
The Adventure Cove is at the location of the former Lake Shawnee Swim Beach and fits the SCP+R Master Plan’s “Land Use” objective of completing the master plan for Lake Shawnee that incorporates the addition of attractions to improve a diversity of opportunity and productivity of use.
As respondents to a public survey desired a beach at the Adventure Cove, the beach area will remain open. No swimming will be allowed in 2018, but swimming will be allowed in 2019 after water quality improvements are made.
Patrons will still enter through the bathhouse building where they may change clothes, choose a watercraft to rent and purchase concessions. Patrons will then walk down a pathway to the docks where the various water crafts will be stationed.
