Motionless in White Shock Kansas City

Motionless in White recently opened for Alice Cooper and Halestorm in KC. They did not disappoint.

Before this tour was announced a few months ago, my mind would go straight to Vans Warped Tour or club shows with 2,000 people when I thought of Motionless In White. That’s more their crowd. Or at least that’s what their crowd is perceived to be. This group of guys is much more than that. They can really hold their own as an act on a major summer tour with one of the most iconic rock stars of all time.

Motionless in White understand that they’ve got to win over the crowds on this summer tour. It took a few songs, but they won over Kansas City. Chris Motionless, lead vocals, acknowledged the crowd frequently and often spoke about the fact that a lot of people probably didn’t know who the hell they were. At one point he said that the crowd was probably thinking “What the hell is this screaming sh!t?” He was right, but it didn’t matter. By the end of their set they had the crowd head banging right along. From teens that were clearly there just to see MIW to older guys in their 60s that came to enjoy the music they grew up on, everyone had a good time. Chris mentioned that as well. He talked about how they don’t care if you love them or hate them as long as everyone is having a good time. That is what a rock show is all about.

The band played songs from all over their catalogue, with exception of their debut album Creatures, which was left out. Stand out songs for me in the short set were “Brand New Numb,” “Reincarnate,” and “Voices.” Their brief 8 song set made wanting a lot more. Songs like “Abigail,” “Eternally Yours,” and “Disguise” would have been great to hear, but when you’re the opener you’ve got to pick and choose your set list very carefully.

Motionless In White are doing a fantastic job on this summer tour and I hope to see them in the area sometime in the near future on a headlining tour. Be sure to check out their new album Disguise and give it a chance before you just toss it to the side. It might not be what you’re used to, but sometimes adding something fresh to your playlist can do some good.
