When you think of McDonald’s, you think of fries and Big Macs. But, did you know that there is also a charity that the “Golden Arches” also supports? The Ronald McDonald House is a non profit organization that provides living space for families who have children under the age of 21 in the hospital. There is a branch that is located in Topeka and their big fundraiser is August 24th. From a simple mask to an elaborate costume, what will you wear for this gala event?
The Ronald McDonald House of NE Kansas has an annual fundraiser called “Denim To Diamonds” This will be the 17th year of the event and it is located at the Ramada by Wyndham Topeka Downtown Hotel & Convention Center. The executive director of NE Kansas Mindee Reece talked to us about what the event is all about.
This year’s Denim to Diamonds gala is a Masquerade Ball. It’s a really fun night of fundraising for Topeka’s Ronald McDonald House, which includes really tasty appetizers, a festive (and potent) signature drink – this year it’s a “Mischief Maker” eg, a whiskey sour – and passed champagne during the cocktail party. Next up is a decadent dinner and interesting program that features the RMHC 2019-2020 Family of the Year. There are silent and live auctions to help raise additional funds to support family stays. The night wraps up with a DJ dance party that goes until 11:30 pm. Each attendee gets two drink tickets to use at the bar. It’s always a great night for a great cause.”
