Stormont Vail was Rockin’ Into the Night last night thanks to 38 Special. The band opened with the fan favorite song, then moved into Wild-Eyed Southern Boys.
Local band, Chance Encounter, opened with 30 minutes of classic rock covers. 38 Special followed at 8pm and their set lasted slightly over an hour and a half.
The band played a few of their hits such as Fantasy Girl, If I’d Been the One, and Caught Up in You. They also included some of their soundtrack work such as Teacher Teacher, and their newest member, Jerry Riggs, performed hits from Heavy Metal such as Radar Rider.
From holding signs, running up and down the aisles for pictures, and dancing all night, fans were clearly enjoying themselves.
38 even performed an encore and a half. As they finished Caught Up in You, Don Barnes, the only original member left, thanked the audience and walked off stage. However, the arena went dark and filled with smoke from the fog machines as rolling thunder came over the speakers. As the smoke cleared and strobe lights flashed, the band was back on stage performing Chain Lightin’. Then they left again. This time the audience had to really work for the encore. Once everyone left was standing, waving flashlights, clapping, and yelling, the band ran on stage to perform Hold On Loosely and wrapped with a cover of Creedence Clearwater Revival’s Travelin’ Band.
