V100 Chiefs Insider

Tamba  The Kansas City Chiefs have agreed to a new contract with Tamba Hali!  The deal is for Three Years and will enable the former first round pick of the Chiefs in the 2006 draft to finish his career in Kansas City.

Hali has been a starter every year since coming to Kansas City out of Penn State as the 20th overall pick in the 2006 draft.  During his time with the Chiefs, Hali has started at both Defensive End and Outside Linebacker only having missed 4 total games, making 155 starts out of the 156 games that he’s played.  On the field Hali has a motor that won’t quit, he has been selected to the Pro Bowl 5 times and has twice been named a 2nd Team AP All-Pro player.  Statistically, Hali currently sits in second place (only to the late Hall of Famer Derrick Thomas) in Chiefs franchise history with 86 Sacks.  He’s also contributed 2 interceptions, 7 fumble recoveries, and 1 defensive touchdown during his career.  The news of Hali’s new contract was first reported by ESPN’s Adam Teicher.

This is the first of many moves sure to be coming over the next several days.  After Franchise Tagging Eric Berry last week, and now re-signing Tamba, the Chiefs still would like to retain Derrick Johnson, Sean Smith, and Jaye Howard.  The new NFL League year begins at 4:00 ET (3:00 Central) time tomorrow afternoon.  Once that happens, all of those guys will officially hit the open market and the Chiefs might not be able to keep them all.  We’ll continue to keep you updated and report any and all offseason news right here, on Topeka’s Rock Leader and Home of the Chiefs V100.
